Tips from a robbed resident

The following  break-in occured recently in Fish hoek, and the victim had some hard earned tips from their experience..

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a Highway Neighbourhood Watch member had her house broken into – burglars broke a back window and sest off their alarm. The burglars forced open a sliding window and stole small items such as a camera, binoculars, cellphone and, importantly, keys to the house, garage and cars. They drove off – out of the garage – with the car which was found not long afterwards written off in Steenberg. She wrote that they had learnt some important lessons:

  • Use your alarm system properly; they had not switched on their external beams as they had been giving false alarms because of vegetation.
  • Keep emergency numbers right next to your phone, especially in your bedroom. They wasted valuable time rushing around and panicking, trying to find them.
  • Put keys in a safe place – their keys were all hanging on hooks conveniently placed near the front door, easy to grab.
